Quitter Jim Guthrie. Nevada Superintendent Quits on Nevada Students

Quitter Jim Guthrie. Chief Nevada Superintendent Quits on Nevada Students

On March 29th, 2013, a disturbing announcement was being circulated just weeks after the abrupt departure of quitter Dwight Jones. As we know, on March 5th, 2013, Clark County Superintendent Dwight Jones announced that he was "stepping down (i.e., quitting) his position as Clark County Superintendent. Dwight Jones claimed that he was leaving his well paid job to care for his ailing mother in Texas, but his exit flight from Nevada was bound for Colorado. What Dwight Jones did not say when he announced his decision to quit was that we would return any of his HUGE bonuses, or re-imburse the residents of Nevada for the portion of the expenses that were applied to his multiple living perks, and special arrangements.

Just weeks after Dwight Jones quit as Superintendent of Clark County Schools, Nevada State Superintendent Jim Guthrie announced that he too was quitting. Unlike the double-speaker Jones, grandfather-like Nevada State Superintendent Jim Guthrie was blunt and direct: "All I can say is I’m resigning, effective immediately” The 76 year-old Jim Guthrie, who looks like he belongs in a Senior citizens hospice instead of being an active Nevada State Superintendent further stated: "I just cannot tell you (the reason).", according to the local Las Vegas Sun newspaper.

Waste of Nevada Taxpayer's Money on both Jim Guthrie and Dwight Jones

Unlike Dwight Jones attempts to smooth away his unexpected departure, Jim Guthrie simply announced matter of factly that he was quitting and Jim Guthrie further advised all reporters, and parents, to not question his decision, or motives. So, after paying this guy a huge salary, and providing him an elite titled job, and many perks, and privileges, Nevada residents apparently do not deserve to know why he (Jim Guthrie) has quit his contract? Guess what Jim Guthrie? You owe an explanation to Nevada residents because it is the ethical and classy thing to do. In fact, you need to apologize on local Nevada television stations why you are leaving a job, which, has apparently not produced a single meaningful accomplishment to Nevada moms, Nevada women, or Nevada students, but has resulted in a huge financial windfall to yourself.

Perhaps, what Nevada parents should really be asking is: How and why does the state of Nevada hire such lousy educators who are more apt to quit their jobs than remain in their contracts? Why does the state of Nevada waste valuable monies on filling ceremonial positions when the ROI (Rate of Return) is often disappointing or even negative. The Nevada State Superintendent position is a ceremonial position which is a redundant layer of management.

Jim Guthrie understands that his titled position as Nevada State Superintendent was largely unnecessary. This explains his lack of respect after he quit. What is their to really question other than the same question that can be applied to both Dwight Jones and to Jim Guthrie? The common question is really: Why did the state of Nevada waste funds and money, travel expenses, lucrative perks and privileges on these two men, and why hasn't the person(s) whom recruited two appalling quitters been relieved of their duties?

There is no evidence whatsoever that either former Clark County Schools Superintendent Dwight Jones or Nevada State Superintendent Jim Guthrie did all they could do to help Nevada moms, Nevada mothers, Nevada women, and Nevada students become aware of the numerous Nevada Scholarships sponsored by National Academy of American Scholars.

Nevada's Laws Encourage Corruption: Nevada Gov. Brian Sandoval appoints Quitter James Guthrie

Either it is getting harder and harder to keep or obtain a legitimate Nevada education leader, or the Nevada State Board members, and the Nevada Governor are apparently too imcompetent to hire or appoint a legitmate education leader. It should be noted, for example, that when Nevada Governor Brian Sandoval appointed James Guthrie as Nevada superintendent of public instruction in March 2012, Brian Sandoval claimed that Nevada had been finally able to "attract a figure of national reputation to lead the state's education reform efforts", quotes a Nevada newspaper. Nevada Gov. Brian Sandoval further claimed that Nevada superintendent James Guthrie would be a key piece in helping to strengthen education in Nevada.

As part of the Nevada education circus, Guthrie, in turn, publicly praised two men he was expected to work with closely, Washoe County Superintendent Heath Morrison and Clark County Superintendent Dwight Jones. Currently, all three well-paid clowns are no longer employed. As part of his public balancing act, Nevada superintendent James Guthrie claimed that Washoe County Superintendent Heath Morrison and Clark County Superintendent Dwight Jones were "two of the nation's best superintendents", according to public reports printed in a local Nevada newspaper. However, by the time Clark County Superintendent Dwight Jones left, he and Jones were not even on speaking terms.

Odd Choice of James Guthrie as Nevada superintendent of public instruction

When Nevada superintendent James Guthrie abruptly resigned, Nevada Gov. Brian Sandoval offered no reason for his departure. It was, however, Nevada Gov. Brian Sandoval who appointed James Guthrie as the Nevada superintendent. Nevada education laws require that the position of Nevada superintendent of public instruction is by appointment rather than election. In other words, the Nevada Governor could theoretically appointment an inarticulate, lazy, money-hungry transient to become the Nevada superintendent knowing that the appointee is simply going to quit. Instead of forcing the Nevada superintendent of public instruction to be elected by the people, Nevada simply allows the Nevada Governer to give away the Nevada superintendent of public instruction to a person who may be the least qualified, and the most untrustworthy.

Nevada Gov. Brian Sandoval was given the great authority to appoint a superintendent for the first time by the Legislature two years ago. Previously, the State Board of Education hired the superintendent. As the state's first Hispanic governor, what was Gov. Brian Sandoval thinking when he first hired and promoted a man like James Guthrie?

Nevada residents entrusted Gov. Brian Sandoval to hire the right man, woman, or single mom. In the end, Nevada residents simply got another Nevada Quitter! According to public reports, Nevada superintendent of public instruction James Guthrie was allegedly well-versed in academia and politics but had no significant or actual experience running a classroom or any type of school district. Although Sandoval promised to continue to work on reforming the state's education system, his choices say something different. His choice of James Guthrie as the Nevada superintendent of public instruction is not only looking like a mistake but is really bordering on plain idiocy. James Guthrie looks like a reflection of the lack of skill and/or questionable leadership of Gov. Brian Sandoval and that he has no business in selecting, promoting, or encouraging any person to be a Nevada superintendent of public instruction.

Looney Comments and Suggestions by James Guthrie as Nevada superintendent of public instruction

Consider numerous looney comments by a Nevada superintendent of public instruction (James Guthrie) as recently as last year: that class size has little to do with the quality of education. Another outrageous suggestion by the former Nevada superintendent of public instruction (James Guthrie) was that Nevada teachers, including teachers within the Clark County School District (who have one of the lowest and most dismal graduation rates in the entire U.S.A.) be paid $200,000.00. In reality, my recommendation is that any teacher who class fails to rank in the top percentile should be paid no more than $30,000 per year. Any amount over $30,000 is a waste until these teachers produce results. In reviewing some of his outrageous comments and looney suggestions, it is unclear whether Governor Sandoval hired a Nevada superintendent of Public Instruction or a Nevada Comedian of Public Stupidity? Then again, can you really expect a privileged 75 year-old man NOT to make such crazy statements?

Failed Policies of Nevada superintendent of Public Instruction James Guthrie

At 75 years of age, it is safe to say that James Guthrie most likely does not have a lot of juice left in his body. However, in Nevada, hiring and promotion decisions have little to with education, skill, competency, and ability. For example, this article is being written at 1:20am. No Educator in the State of Nevada works past 5:00pm, PDT, and Clark County teachers never produce original teaching material (it is all copied from the Internet or borrowed from other teachers.

Nevada officials actually expected James Guthrie, who has no degree or experience in .php programming, Unix Shell, Wordpress, C-programming, Java, Java-script, HTML5, HTML, Drupal, and most other programming languages, to perform software related duties, such as:

  1. to create a statewide system for rating Nevada schools;
  2. to revamp teacher evaluations.

What a joke. Neither James Guthrie as Nevada superintendent of public instruction nor Dwight Jones as the Superintendent of Clark County Schools have the personal skill, technical know-how, and ability, to create such a system, and neither do they have the personal knowledge to even instruct others to accomplish such a task. Why was James Guthrie hired in the first place, other to give him a pay-check? Nevada corruption. The failed selection of quitter Dwight Jones and the failed selection of quitter James Guthrie, simply masks the reality of deeper Nevada problems, which are as follows:

  1. Nevada has one of the highest proportion of teacher/student molestations in the U.S.A. This statistic is derived from calculating the statistical mean of the number of enrolled students in the various Nevada school districts and then calculating the number of Nevada teachers, administrators, principals, and Nevada personnel who have been actually hired by a Nevada School District (Clark County School District, Washoe, etc.) Next, we calculate the actual number of Nevada teachers, administrators, principals, and Nevada personnel who have been arrested or charged with offenses that pertain to Nevada teens. To prevent this number from being flawed by corrupt Nevada prosecutors, always use the original charges, and not the reduced charges.
  2. Nevada superintendent of public instruction employee James Guthrie quit his job rather than finish what he started, and what he was expected of him. His personal failures, include, but are not limited to, a failure to create a statewide system for rating Nevada schools; and, a failure to to revamp teacher evaluations.
  3. Despite allegedly rigourous background checks, and references, Clark County School District teachers have a hard-time keeping their filthy hands, dirty mouths, and sexually-diseased body parts off of and away from Nevada young students. Nevada Child molestation, Nevada child abuse, and harassment of Nevada students is rampant amongst Nevada School District teachers. In some cases, some Clark County teachers have doubled up on Nevada students to satisfy their gory, perverted, and demented fantasies. For example, consider the allegedly sick episode of Bambi M. Dewey, 32, and John E. Stalmach, 31. These two Clark County School District teachers were arrested for allegedly engaging in cheap sex acts with a local Nevada teen. Although these two teachers should be and are presumed to be innocent until proven otherwise, it should be noted that it takes a hell of a lot of paperwork, documents, frustration, and presumed evidence reputable witnesses to get the local Nevada police department to actually arrest a pair of heretofore upstanding Clark County teachers that fit the persona of an up-standing, professional, clean, comfortable, and suburban profile linked to the typical Clark County School District teacher. In addition, consider the case of Amanda Brennan, a Las Vegas high school teacher. This woman was recently charged with luring a Nevada minor to engage in perverted acts. The unattractive Ms. Brennan, who apparently has been unsucessful in finding a male her own age range that is willing to accept her numerous physical and emotional scars, is now another indication of the apparent desperation of Clark County teachers to find suitable dates.
  4. The Clark County School District has a massive number of 300,000 Nevada students, 35,000 Nevada employees, 336 Nevada schools and an annual budget of $5.2 billion. Despite this enormous budget of billions, Nevada students are not even afforded the personal dignity of having their own personal school books, and instead are furnished cheap, and barely legible photocopies of class material. Nevada parents accept this condition without debate;
  5. Over 60% of the the Clark County School District budget is allocated towards the salaries of extremist teachers who believe their salaries, and comfortable life-style should take precedence over class-room material, learning resources, and equipment for students;
  6. Clark County Schools routinely mismanage their budgets. For example, the Clark County School District reportedly spent an average $6,827 on each of its students last year, which was $405 more per student than the year before. However, this funding did nothing to ease or reverse a staggering school drop-out rates by Nevada students;
  7. Instead of preparing daily class-room material, Clark County School District teachers are so inept and out of touch with routine teacher functions, that it is routine for Clark County School District teachers to download and copy assignments from the Internet and re-use the same assignments year after year and copy the prepared assignments from other Clark County School District teachers. In-house plagiarism by Clark County School District teachers is rampant and routine;
  8. The Clark County School District is the fifth-largest school district in the United States, and Clark County School District teachers have one of the highest teacher salaries. At the same time the Clark County School District teachers are being enriched with excessive, bloated, and mind-boggling teacher salaries that are on par with super-star teachers, the exact same Clark County School District teachers have achieved very little, and have produced the least quantifiable results for students, and these same Clark County School District teachers have consistently been in the top tier of having the lowest graduation rates amongst school districts in the U.S.A. with over 100, 000 students;
  9. Despite these incredibly negative statistics, Clark County School District teachers have publicly fought with the Clark County School District for higher annual salary increases when the appropriate solution is to lower their salaries and force these Clark County School District to PROVE their value and worthiness by actually doing the job they were hired to do: teach and instruct, and not gripe and complain.
  10. The sheer greed and arrogance of Clark County School District teachers is appalling, and even diabolical. For example, the Clark County School District's application for a federal grant amongst 900 school districts across the country — who were vying for a piece of $400 million in federal grant money-- essentially collapsed because the local Clark County teachers union declined to support the district's application; federal law requires a signature from the Nevada teachers union to certify the grant application;
  11. On February 15th, 2013, the local Las Vegas Sun published a report that announced a "black student in the Clark County School District" was three times more likely to be expelled from school than non-black peers. The study was conducted, not by the local University of Las Vegas Nevada (UNLV), but by out-of-state Vanderbilt University because UNLV (another supporter of Northwest Accreditation Commission) was apparently too afraid to publish such a controversial document.
